On Tuesday, March 18, in celebration of Edgar Cayce’s birthday, the Museums of Hopkinsville-Christian County will be offering a special “Museum After Dark” program featuring a game that Mr. Cacye invented – the game of Pit.
First sold in 1904, Pit allows players to imitate the commodities agricultural traders of the Chicago Board of Trade that was known as “The Pit.” Mr. Cayce invented the card game while he was living in Bowling Green, Kentucky, as a fun and educational way to teach those playing about how stock markets work. The game went national after being picked up by the Parker Brothers game company, although Mr. Cayce only received a dozen or so decks of the cards produced by the company – and $6.00.
Exciting and fast-paced, Pit players trade commodities like corn, soybeans, wheat, and more in free-for-all style rounds. Once one player collects all of any given commodity, they “corner the market” and end the round. Points are given for commodities collected.
Enjoy a little friendly competition at the Museum – and celebrate Edgar Cayce’s birthday – on Tuesday, March 18 at 6 p.m. Pit is an individual competition game, so no teams are necessary!
The program will be held at the Pennyroyal Area Museum on Tuesday, March 18 at 6 p.m. Regular admission rates apply, but museum members are free to attend.
