The Museums of Historic Hopkinsville-Christian County invites you to our next History on Tap on Thursday, September 26 at 6:30pm at Hopkinsville Brewing Company to explore the history and effects of alcohol consumption during the Civil War.
Luke Bendick, instructor of American history at Hopkinsville Community College, will share his research in a program titled “Satan was more honored than Washington by it”: Teetotalers, Drunks, & Manhood. Drinking during the Civil War was a hotly contested issue on both sides of the Mason-Dixon Line. This lecture will discuss how different groups of Americans viewed the consumption of alcohol by enlisted men during the Civil War.
October’s History on Tap will be on Thursday, October 24 and will feature an interactive group discussion on “I Remember the 1960s” to explore what teenage life was like in Hopkinsville during this decade of change.
History on Tap is a free series that seeks to share local history in a relaxed, fun setting. Programs are typically held on the last Thursday of the month at 6:30pm at Hopkinsville Brewing Company.
