Preparing for the Greatest Show in the Universe

Here in Hopkinsville and Christian County, Kentucky, we always roll out the red carpet for our visitors and guests . . . but now we can do just that on an ultimate stage! We are but 1 month away from the Great American Total Solar Eclipse . . . and we have the best seat in the house!

An abundance of preparation has taken place, and continues to take place, in Hopkinsville and Christian County. Partners like our city and county governments, local utility companies, police, fire, safety, transportation, and more tirelessly plan for our day to shine . . .
or “glow in the dark” we should say!

But with all of the logistical planning happening on a regional and state front, there’s much that you too can do to welcome family, friends, and visitors to the greatest show!

*Make sure that you stock up on your key grocery items well in advance of the weekend leading up to the Eclipse.

*Think about your local travel and event-going plans prior to that weekend . . . and fill up your gas tank to ensure fun with ease.

*Plan to have printed driving directions to various event locations across Christian County. It’s so important to remember that although there will be additional cell phone coverage in place, you may still experience difficulties with making a call, posting social media updates, and using GPS from your mobile devices.

–>The Visit Hopkinsville Team will have copies of printed driving directions available at the new Visitors Center on Eclipse Weekend!

*Have plenty of bottled water—and ice!—on hand for all weekend outdoor activities . . . and especially for Eclipse-viewing!

*Be ready with your approved Eclipse Viewing Glasses! We’ve got our approved viewing glasses – click here for info on how to get yours!

*Continue showing your best hospitality to neighbors and visitors immediately after “totality” . . . we are likely to be spending more time together with one another as the traffic takes time to clear!

Happy counting down to Total #Eclipseville !
