What can we say about Dolly that hasn’t already been said? Anything we type will pale in comparison to what’s been written, so we want to focus on what we can do to honor her memory:
A lot of you know that Hopkinsville-Christian County Public Library has its own Imagination Library program. But here are some things you may not know about it:
Every child in Christian County from birth to age 5 is eligible to receive a *free* book every single month
Last month, 2,734 children in Christian County received an Imagination Library book
Each book costs approximately $2.20 – about $155 per child over the five years of eligibility
While state government covers some of the cost of each book, HCCPL is required to raise the rest of the funds – the library currently spends $43,500 each year on the programWe want to support HCCPL’s Imagination Library program, so on September 5th (9-5, get it?), we will be donating 9.5% of our total sales in memory of Dolly and everything she did to support early childhood reading.
