A Brief History of Trice Castle:
“The Trice Castle was built in 1905 for Miss Anna Mallory Trice after her father died. The architect was F.J. Schlotter of Evansville, Indiana according to The Hopkinsville Kentuckian newspaper on April 1, 1905. The Davis Monument and Construction Company, owned by Mr. Lucian H. Davis, built the house as mentioned in the Hopkinsville Kentuckian newspaper on February 2, 1915. Mr. Davis also built several other stone structures such as the Cumberland Telephone Company, his residence on East 7th Street, the wings at Western State Hospital, and other private and public buildings. Miss Annie got the deed on January 20, 1906. Miss Annie Trice lived in her castle until 1939 at the age of 89. The skeleton keys were turned over to George and Patty Duffer on October 17, 1939. They rented the house to Fletcher Fink from 1940-1942(?). There are no records of who lived in the house in the years 1943-1945. The city did not issue city directories during this time period probably due to WWII. Either the Finks rented the house during this time period or the Duffers moved into the house. Either way, the Duffer family owned the house for 19 years until they sold the house to the Hammond family in 1958. They lived the house until it was sold in 1964 to Odell and Aline Johnson. Mr. and Mrs. Johnson sold the house to Harold and Aurelia DeBolt on September 12, 1973. The Debolt family turned over the keys to the Steele family on October 26, 1981. The OKeefe’s bought the house in 1985 and sold the house in 1998 to the Worthy family. They occupied the house until 2000 when Judy Hall bought The Trice Castle. Ms. Hall sold The Trice Castle to the Adkins family in 2004. On June 14, 2018, John and Jeri Lynn Richardson purchased the spectacular house and are currently restoring the inside and outside of the house.”
